Aroma Beads are small, plastic polymer beads that absorb fragrance oil and release a long-lasting scent. They're popular for DIY air fresheners, sachets, and car freshies. Here's a complete guide on how to use them:
🔹 What You Need:
-
Unscented aroma beads (clear or colored)
-
Fragrance oil (skin-safe if needed)
-
Ziplock bag or glass jar
-
Optional: mica powder or liquid candle dye for coloring
-
Optional: metal cookie cutters and oven (for car freshies)
🔹 Basic Instructions: Scenting Aroma Beads
-
Measure Beads: Use 1 cup (8 oz) of aroma beads.
-
Add Fragrance Oil: Add 1–2 oz of fragrance oil per cup of beads (start with 1 oz).
-
Mix and Seal: Combine in a jar or bag and shake well. Let it sit sealed.
-
Cure Time: Let beads absorb the oil for 24–72 hours. Shake occasionally.
-
Done: When beads are dry to the touch and no oil remains at the bottom, they're ready.
🔹 Optional: Add Color
-
Add a pinch of mica powder or a drop or two of liquid candle dye when mixing the oil.
-
Shake well until evenly colored.
🔹 Uses:
-
Sachets: Place in small organza bags for drawers, closets, shoes.
-
Car Freshies: Molded and baked into shapes (see below).
-
Jar Fresheners: Leave beads in open jars around the home.
🔹 Making Car Freshies (Baked Aroma Beads):
-
Prepare Mold: Place cured beads into a metal cookie cutter on a nonstick pan.
-
Preheat Oven: 300°F (150°C).
-
Bake: About 5–10 minutes. Beads melt and fuse but don’t become liquid.
-
Cool & Remove: Let cool completely before removing from the mold.
-
Add Hole (if needed): Drill a small hole for hanging, or bake with a hole using a metal straw or nail.
🔹 Tips:
-
Don’t use too much oil—it can make beads sticky.
-
Keep out of direct sunlight to preserve scent.
-
Safe to use in cars, closets, lockers, etc.
-
Average scent throw: 30–90 days, depending on fragrance and environment.
